Who is IceRAM?

“IceRAM” appeared somewhere back in High School, when I was in the 9th grade. I remember I had just bought a new computer and a modem. Me and my class coleagues used to meet online on IRC.

One of my coleagues, Irina (the shortest Irina, for the ones who know who I’m talking about), has created her nickname by mirroring the letters in her name. She obtained “Aniri”. My first nicknames contained “blue” in them, as far as I remember. I’m a big fan of blue, although I’m not radiating blue.

When I saw my coleague’s algorithm, I thought I might obtain something out of my name. I still have the paper where I tried some variants. First try: mirror my name: Aecrim… not bright. 2nd try: mirror Ionut (my middle name): Tunoi… not bright either. I then started to play with “Mircea”, scrambling the letters. I obtained “iceram”. It needed some caps here and there… and there he was: “IceRAM”. A nick composed of “Ice” and “RAM” at first sight.

I adopted IceRAM as my nickname online since then, because “ice” reflects my temperment and “RAM” was a nice way of saying “I like computers”. Above all… both make a nice metaphor…
